Favorite Mixes from April 2021
With warmer weather and hope that things may get somewhat normal this summer, the feeling of euphoria on a dance floor doesn’t seem like a fairy tale anymore. Mixes that we chose for this month’s list include some that will properly shake you off that chair and some that will make you switch from chair to sofa
Manamana - Waiting for NACHTIVILLE
It seems that things might be coming back to some normality since there was a new mix from Manamana that popped up in my feed, and I haven't listened to a mix from Manamana in forever. Oh, how I missed their uplifting House style. This mix was broadcasted at 'Waiting for Nachtiville' stream, which happened a few weeks ago, and it's Manamana in their best. Uplifting House that will lighten up your day and make you dance almost instantly.
Estrato Aurora - Danaza Nativa Invites 04
Valencia - Buenos Aires connection brings us this special mix from Delayed's favorite, Estarto Aurora, who made the latest contribution to Danza Nativa's podcast series. The mix is a slow-burner that explores the depths of broken polyrhythms and Techno, the style Estrato Aurora has become known for.
ABSIS live + mouseDown & F-on - Alpenglühen#58
Wow-what a five-hour journey this is. F-on invited his fellow Spaniard Salvador Coromina, better known as ABSIS or mouseDown, for the latest edition of his Alpenglühen radio show, which has become a must-listen for me the past year or so. The first hour of the show is exclusive live material by ABSIS made specifically for this show. An hour of wonderful ambient on which ABSIS gradually further builds with ambient Techno and drone. The last 90min or so are reserved for the boss himself, F-on, who delivers a marvelous mix of new and older gems in his signature deep style. F-on's crate is full of wonders, and it's always such a pleasure to listen to his sets.
Queniv - stranded.fm WAS
De Lichting's own Paul Lebers, aka Queniv, steps behind the decks and delivers an hour of unreleased gems by his friends and himself. The mix unfolds from groovy Deep House to Breaks and turns into a Techno machinery in the last third.
Soela - Groove Podcast 295
Berlin-based Soela is one of the DJs that has 'broke the code' to make a proper eclectic mixtape and not sound as you listen to some playlist on random. Her latest mix for Groove magazine is a great example. It covers many electronic music angles and not in one moment leaves you with asking 'what?!'
KMRU - Currents Shift Mix
Nairobi-born, Berlin-based Joseph Kamaru, better known as KMRU, has propelled himself into 'Ambient Hall of Fame' in the last year or so with his marvelous field recording-based drone style. For his latest mix for Breakwave's radio show on NTS Radio, KMRU delivers an eclectic journey through IDM, Experimental, and Ambient.
Andrey Pushkarev - Internal Selection 042
To be a 'music digger' or 'selector', one has to spend years going through crates and thousands of folders of music and, during that time, work on his/her technique. Andrey Pushkarev has been patiently building his reputation as one of Russia's and European finest music diggers and DJs. His sets are immaculately mixed music journeys built on years of experience. For his latest podcast for Italian Parkett Magazine, Pushkarev deliveries an hour of groovy tech house that cries for a dance floor full of people. Great party mix.
IORI - Daydreaming #1
The Tokyo-based Iori Asano, aka IORI, is well known for his dubbed-out Techno style that he's been carefully crafting since his debut release Galaxy in 2009. With releases on labels like Phonica, Prologue, Semantica, Mule Musiq, and the most recent one on Sungate, IORI further explores the depths of Techno and beyond. For this occasion, we have a mix from IORI meant for home listening or daydreaming, as the name of the mix suggests. It's a beautiful collection of ambient, downtempo, jazz, experimental, and beyond.
Jana Sleep - The Memoir Page 63
I wasn't familiar with Jana Sleep's work before I heard this mix, and it seems like I have some catching up to do. Her deep and trippy Techno live set for the magnificent "The Memoir" series shows that Jana is one to look for. Deep, dark, and smooth. We just need a dark, hazy basement, and we're good.
Owl - OB14
This month's list welcomes back a brilliant Charleroi-based Owl who is slowly but surely stealing everyone's hearts here at Delayed. The mix Owl made for our friends at On Board Music is a warm, inviting, and carefully constructed ambient and downtempo story. It's an essential home listening.
Daniel George & Alex Albrecht - InScape 002
Daniel George, the host of the Melbourne-based InScape radio show, invited Analogue Attic co-founder Alex Albrecht for a very interesting chat about the role of nature in composition and how our surroundings inform the way we listen, and how it helps to evolve a musical practice. During the first hour, you'll listen to Alex's projects and Daniel's ambient and downtempo selections in the second half of this radio show. This is a very interesting interview, and I highly recommend it.
Anna Malysz - KANNMIX 41
Thanks to our dear friends at Kann Records and their podcast, we have found out about Leipzig-based DJ Anna Malysz, who created such a lovely mix for Kann's podcast series. The mix is an eclectic journey that has smiles stamped all over it. Pure joy.
The Vision Reels - Deep Breakfast 106
The Vision Reels' contribution to Deep Breakfast series is a beautiful ambient journey with rich atmospheres and deep emotional undercurrents. It's an essential morning listening.
DINA - LT Podcast 173
With signs of hope for the upcoming summer and its festivals and outdoor parties, we have to switch our mindsets from 'home listening' and get ready for some much-needed raves. DINA's mix for Lobster Theremin is an ideal preparation kit. Here's what DINA, the Nachtcrew co-founder, said about the mix: It's a 2-hour journey through old Techno and trance mixed with new released and unreleased gems from myself and friends. I'm feeling hopeful and excited about summer approaching, so I selected music that I'd want to play and dance to at an outdoor summer rave with my friends.
Nathan Kofi - RRFM mix
This mix by Nathan Kofi was a part of 'De Lichting' takeover at Radio Radio FM a few weeks ago. Nathan Kofi delivers an hour of warm, deep, lo-fi House and Breaks that are so pleasant to listen to while driving. It has that spring/summer vibes all over it.
Oslon - Global Vibe Radio 260
Oslated founder Oslon is back with another tremendous deep techno escapade, this time for an LA-based 6 AM crew. The mix features tracks by artists and labels that are currently leading the way in Deep Techno like Harmony Rec, Lawless, Danza Nativa, Monument, Northern Electronics, and of course Oslated, to name a few.
Konduku - Club Rooted #3
The master of complex polyrhythms, Konduku is back with yet another mind-twisting mix. This mix Konduku made for Club Rooted shows Konduku in his brightest light, pushing the boundaries of 'rhythm section' to the max. Quite impressive.
Roman Flügel - Bleep Mix #179
Bleep's latest podcast comes from Roman Flügel, who needs no special introduction. Flügel is a producer who made his name, creating music that is almost impossible to categorize in specific genres, and it's the same for his mixes. The common denominator is - fun. Here's what Roman Flügel said about this mix: "I like to keep my DJ sets rather improvised and playful. The mix for bleep.com is no exception. This time I've combined some of my recent favorites along tracks from my back catalog and some of my latest music for Running Back."
Martinou - Sewer Sender 04.22.2021
Mixes by Martinou, the Malmö-based DJ and producer, always catch our attention. His Rinse FM monthly radio show in April was such a pleasurable listening. It is two hours full of twists and turns that keep this mix very interesting to listen to. As soon as you think that Martinou went into a 'cruise control', he pitches down the track and takes the mix in a different direction. Constant mood changes when appropriately executed, like in this case, make the mix stand out.
Doltz - Prior Act #035
Shun Watanabe, aka Doltz, is a prolific Japanese artist that we got familiar with through his powerful release on Oslated in 2020. Fast forward to February this year, and another magnificent album by Doltz landed in our inbox, this time via Singapore-based Alexandar imprint. Doltz usually operates in ambient and experimental techno realms, and this mix he made for Prior Act is a proper mirror of his style. Deep, driving, atmospheric Techno that moves you away from that chair almost instantly. From head nodding to full-on dancing in 5 seconds.
