Favorite Mixes from October 2024

October handed us an unexpected harvest of festival recordings. There was upsammy’s sharp, halftime and drum&bass ride at Waking Life; Forest Drive West at Mostra, guiding us through a pulsing maze of rhythm; and Wata Igarashi’s magnetic spell at Monument, a plunge into the depths of pure hypnotism. Telva’s opening set on Sunday at the Paral·lel balanced patience and experimentation, layering ambient textures into something entirely fresh.

Meanwhile, Mario and Timnah’s debut hybrid set at Landskron 3 was a bold new chapter for both artists, and Shoal’s live set in Kyiv at Rhythm Büro was full of raw, unfiltered energy. In the podcast realm, Raär from Brussels and Iffie from Athens took us from dark ambient to IDM to techno with a meticulous, almost instinctual ease. And for quieter moments, Iwamaki and Calibre delivered ambient mixes that feel right for nights when the world slows down. These are the October mixes we can’t stop playing.
