PREMIERE: Dwaalgast feat Shari Klein - Pad [SoHaSo]
'Pad' EP is the result of a collaboration between spoken word artist Shari Klein and Dwaalgast.
They have been friends for years; after Shari started writing (erotic) poems in the summer of 2020, the idea arose to get into the studio and immerse Shari's lyrics in the sounds of Dwaalgast.
The result is an EP with stories about connecting, going deep, and the moon. About letting go and thinking about what matters. Pad gives Dutch spoken word a new spirit where music, audio collage, and words come together in a new way. She takes you to dark nights, sweaty armpits, and long paths that you still seek to walk.
This is what Shari told us about the title track 'Pad' during our little chat:
It's about the ups and downs I experienced more than ever the past year.
About the things that started mattering to me more.
Hanging on to the highs and diving into them entirely, not just a little bit.
But also indulging in the lows and shit moments in life.
Letting them be. Not holding on to things too much, but just letting them happen.
Being vulnerable. Embracing that.
Dwaalgast's arpeggiated synths are an ideal foundation for Shari's lyrics that give a distinct positive after-taste to the track and feel that despite the turmoil many of us have gone through in the past year, everything will be alright at the end. The color of Shari's voice fits just perfectly with Dwaalgast's music, so even if you don't understand Dutch, 'Pad' is a very pleasant track to listen to.
