Favorite Mixes from November 2020

It’s not news that music makes everything better. And since we currently spent most of our time domesticated, do yourself a favor and soundtrack your days at home with some of these mixes. We picked mixes for different moods ranging from beatless ambient to fast-paced peak time techno, and everything in between.

Francis Harris - Public Access 001

A gorgeous mix from S&T founder Francis Harris. Carefully constructed with immaculate track selection, this mix is full of peaceful oscillations that come to rest on the ears like a warm, comforting blanket. One of the best mixes I've heard in months.

Erika - vurt podcast 23

Detroit's own Erika is not a stranger here at Delayed. Interdimensional Transmission founder is known for her broad music knowledge, which she's been nurturing through countless live performances, radio shows, and DJing at parties. For this occasion, Erika made this mind-bending deep techno mix for vurt. - night club in Seoul, South Korea, and their podcast series. Seamlessly executed, this hypnotic voyage was one of the favorite mixes I heard in the last few weeks. Erika also included a 'buy music club' tracklist (a very cool initiative that should become more popular with DJs who post their mixes on SoundCloud). She posted it in the mix's comment section, so if you like what you hear, go to Bandcamp and support the artists who made this wonderful music.

Forest On Stasys - The Memoir - Page 52

Hypnus Records' brilliant 'The Memoir' series has another gem in its catalog. This time it comes from one of the co-founders of Danza Nativa record label, Guido Camino, better known as Forest On Stasys. Over the last couple of years, Forest On Stasys has released some magnificent records in ambient, deep techno, and tribal techno realms. During this 90min voyage, FOS showcases some of the upcoming stuff that we can expect on labels such as Harmony Rec., Norite, and Lowless and some of his previously released work. It's a truly magical journey.

Overland - Sweat Equity radio show at The Lot Radio

NYC's record label Sweat Equity invited Overland for their latest radio show at The Lot Radio a few weeks ago. Vancouver-based Overland delivered a beautiful sonic and atmospheric ambient set in the first hour of the show and switched into full-on party mode in the second hour with a fast-paced peak time techno. There are some incredible tracks in both hours of the show, so don't hesitate to give it a try.

Laura BCR invites Sunju Hargun & Estrato Aurora

Sometimes, in the sea of mixes we go over each month, gems like this get overlooked. Laura BCR invited two artists that are adored here at Delayed for her monthly residency at Rinse FM. Siamese Twins founder Sunju Hargun joined mighty Estrato Aurora for this magnificent 'double-header.' The first hour is courtesy of Sunju. He takes the listener to a spellbinding and, in moments, spiritual journey while amazing Estrato Aurora performs his live set and explores the depths of slow techno, the style he's a master of.

Merrin Karras - DJ Set - Sweat Lodge takeover at Hör

What a wonderful mix by Berlin-based Irishman, Chymera under his Merrin Karras alias. This set was recorded during the Sweat Lodge takeover at Hör a few weeks ago. It's a lovely blend of Merrin Karras' original work and tunes by the legendary musicians that influenced ambient music in tremendous ways like Brian Eno, Steve Roach, Suzanne Ciani, and Steve Reich.

Cleveland - Hazer and Phaser Mix

Over the years, Cleveland has set a certain standard when it comes to his podcasts. Obscure and intricate track selections and very well programming have become Cleveland's trademark. And this might be my favorite mix I've heard so far from him. Exclusive for Honey Soundsystem's podcast series, this moody mix goes places and hits you in waves. It unfolds from cosmic ambient through trippy breaks, hazy house, and dub techno, back to atmospheric, mesmerizing soundscapes in the last quarter of the journey.

Iro Aka - Left Bank Podcast 001

Left Bank is the newest addition to a vibrant underground music scene in Tbilisi. With the help of friends, the mastermind behind it, our dear friend Gacha Bakradze has created a multi-purpose venue which will serve as an event place at night and social space during the day. Music is an integral piece in the whole story, so podcast series naturally goes with it. The first podcast in Left Bank's catalog comes from Barcelona-based duo Iro Aka. Hivern Discs affiliates made a gorgeous mix that slowly unfolds from lush downtempo and ambient into acid breaks and dub techno.

Afrodeutsche - Groove Podcast 279

Henrietta Smith-Rolla, aka Afrodeutsche, is an incredibly talented artist hailing from the UK. We got introduced to Afrodeutsche's work with her debut LP on Skam a few years back, and since then, we've been paying close attention to her work. The eclectic and wonky mix she made for Groove Magazine is a great driving companion, so if you need something to listen to on your next road trip, look no further.

Chromio - Discos Pandemicos #3

There's no info I could find about Chromio, the latest guest in Estrato Aurora's Discos Pandemicos podcast series, so let's let the music speak for itself. Incredible track selection, seamless transitions, and deep dark atmosphere throughout this journey make this mix one of the standouts on this list.

Hisham Zahran - N09 07

Hisham has been one of the most consistent DJs I've been listening to in the last couple of years. Whether you listen to him in the club or his studio-made podcasts, Hisham perfected 'storytelling' and always finds that sweet spot of melodic, just enough to keep things moving and interesting. As we all slowed down this year and spent more time at home, a bit slower music perfectly fits that environment. The mix Hisham made for Cairo-based record label Rakete is a trippy, rumbling journey spiced with breaks that comfortably floats around 100BPM. This mix should be on your 'must listen to' list.

Juicy Romance - LT Podcast 156

Straight from down under, Juicy Romance brings the sunshine vibes to Lobster Theremin's podcast series with this excellent electro mix. Hailing from Naarm/Melbourne, this incredibly talented DJ shows that she's the one to keep an eye on. The mix is energetic, cheerful, and very well programmed. We all need to listen to something like this while entering gloomy winter days in the Northern hemisphere.

Donato Dozzy - Samurai Music Podcast 46

An incredible Donato Dozzy shows why he is considered one of the most prominent figures on the international underground music scene. It doesn't matter if it's ambient, deep hypnotic techno, or, as in this case, 170BPM drum&bass. One thing is sure; you'll hear the quality. A mind-bending drum&bass mix exclusively made for the Samurai Music podcast series in celebration of Dozzy's new EP 'The Tao' will take you places you didn't know you want to be.

Saphileaum - Transcience #31

Berlin-based radio show Transcience invited Andro Gogibedashvili, better known as Saphileaum, to create an hour of relief from anxieties of living in these uncertain times. As Transcience crew describes - a temporary suspension of reality, where the listener can speculate on alternate modes of existence that reject hetero-patriarchal systems of oppression. This astonishing mix will certainly relax you and transport you to another dimension.

Vivi An - SLR Radio Podcast 035

Coming straight from Sao Paolo's vibrant underground scene, Vivi An brings some after hour delight in her latest mix made for the SLR Radio Podcast series.

Fantastic Man - Gop Cast 051

In the light of the release of his brilliant debut LP called 'Utopioid' on mule records, Melbourne-based Fantastic Man takes us for a remarkable eclectic journey with this mix for Gop Tun. The mix is based around myriad melodic moments with a 'feel-good' stamp all over it.

F-on - HOCast #38

Get ready for two hours of dub and ambient techno bliss by Alpengluhen founder F-on. It doesn't get much better than this.

Marvin & Guy - In Dark We Trust #63

Anyone in the mood for some disco? I mean dark disco. Yeah? Perfect. Alessandro and Marcelo, better known as Marvin & Guy, are the duo that pushes the boundaries of this beloved genre year after year, whether through their productions or psychedelic, cosmic (and always fun) mixes. Marvin & Guy's mixes are usually real gold when it comes to obscure disco records, and this mix is no different. 10/10

John Talabot at Sonar+D 2020

Master at work. John Talabot with yet another brilliant mix, this time joined by AV experts Desilence for an impressive performance at Sonar+D. You can check out the whole mind-bending performance here.

JP Enfant - Orphic community .011

One of the residents of Amsterdam's De School, JP Enfant, delivers peak time 'tour de force' techno with his exclusive mix for the Orphic Community podcast series. If you're longing for those intense, powerful moments on the dance floor, this mix comes as close as it gets to it.
