REVIEW: Blazej Malinowski & Claudio PRC - Future Retro [012]
In food, the art of pairing is subtle but important. Open a wrong bottle of wine with your dish and the meal is ruined: flavors either cancel each other or dominate one another or, worse, fight each other. On the flip side, a proper dish/wine combo can create a meal that is harmonious and is greater than the sum of its parts. In music, proper pairing is no less important.
Claudio PRC’s relatively new label “012” is all about proper pairing. In its first two releases, Claudio paired his musical dish with a good bottle of Luigi Tozzi as well as a nice SaffronKeira to create two unforgettable musical meals.
The third release on the label finds Claudio pairing himself with a traditionally full-bodied (sound-wise) Blazej Malinowski. The result, a 3 track EP called “Future Retro”, is a beautifully restrained and delicate tasting meal. Both producers pair so well on the EP, that it’s difficult to discern which parts are Claudio and which parts are Blazej. The sound palette is airier and lighter than one would expect from this combo; with an almost playful feel to the two techno tracks on the EP. Some elements, as the EP title suggests, are modern and futuristic while others give a nod to electronic music of a bygone era. A nice meal indeed!
“Future Retro” EP is coming out on May 14th via 012
